Our time domain dielectric spectrometer (TDDS) uses a unique method of operation, based on innovations from the National Institute of Science and Technology. Rather than using direct frequency control, a frequency spectrum is produced by subjecting the sample to a step voltage and then performing a Laplace transform on the charge-against-time response. The advantage of this approach is the broad frequency spectrum (10 -4 to 10,000 Hz) which is covered in a single test. The TDDS operates over a wide temperature range (-150 to 250°C), confirming and supplementing DMA and DSC data and often detecting subtle transitions missed by these techniques.
